Rebuild

A checkout built for how the food actually sells.

Simply Supper · Edmonton, Alberta

Meal prep does not shop like an ordinary store. People order for a week at a time, in combinations an off-the-shelf cart has no idea what to do with. The rebuild gave Simply Supper a checkout built around how they actually sell, and a site their own team could run without calling anyone.

The challenge

Simply Supper feeds families across Edmonton and well beyond it — meal preparation and frozen meals, built on the idea that a good dinner at home should be convenient rather than a project. The business worked. The website had stopped keeping up with it.

It looked older than the brand did, it was slow, and updating it cost the team time they did not have. Underneath all of that sat the real problem: the way Simply Supper sells does not match the way an off-the-shelf store expects to be sold through, so every ready-made e-commerce option fitted badly or not at all.

What we did

  • The journey mapped before the pages were designed. User journeys and UX mapping first, so the structure came out of how people actually order rather than how the old site happened to be arranged.
  • A platform the team could run. WordPress and Elementor, chosen so updating the site stopped being a request that had to go through someone else.
  • A checkout built rather than bought. A multi-step process assembled from native and custom WordPress functionality, because the ready-made carts could not describe what Simply Supper sells. Fewer decisions per screen, and none of them the wrong ones.
  • Weekly numbers where the team already works. A custom reporting dashboard inside WordPress for seeing and comparing the week’s transactions, rather than exporting and hoping.
